I began these pages to assist docents of the Museum of Russian Art, which is still a goal, but it also serves more personal purposes. Russia has long traditions of representational art and of formal training. That tradition includes a belief that an artist's highest calling is teaching, so it's little wonder that there are so many great Russian artists. I find that it's helpful to see many works by an artist in order to better appreciate each work, so many of these sections are for individual artists. I also find it interesting to know something of the life of an artist, so bios are included. My favorite Russian artist is unquestionably Ilya Repin.
