Smith's Collections This long list of "stuff" accumulated over many years represents a lot of enjoyment. Computer work was my profession beginning in 1963 and continuing in a semi-retired mode now. Much of that time was incredibly exciting, as the rapidly-expanding computer industry attracted a huge number of creative people who in turn produced fabulous innovation in hardware and software. Every day saw new products arrive on the market, and most of those new products stretched what people could accomplish with computers. The fall baseball seasons of 1987 and 1991 were huge in Minnesota, as the Twins surprised everyone by getting into and winning the World Series. Prior to 1987, Minnesota had begun to think that there was a local jinx, as the Vikings went to 4 Super Bowls and lost all 4. The North Stars hockey team left town for Texas, of all places. Both Twins' Series wins were legendary Cinderella stories and nerve-wracking contests. The Twins WERE the news. Someday, I'll go back and read the newspapers of those periods to find out what normally-big news stories were essentially ignored as we all got deeply into Twins' stories day after day. All of these things are for sale. Each sale will represent a little heartbreak, but such is life. One cannot continue accumulating fascinating "stuff" forever. Also, my daughters are not looking forward to dealing with all of it when I finally bite the dust. By the way, this list is not finished... just a beginning.

It was marketed as the " Friendly Computer " in ads featuring William Shatner of Star Trek. It followed the successful PET series of computers and was the first computer to crack the $300 dollar barrier for a color computer. This was a remarkable feat in the early 80's, most color computers were expensive and beyond the reach of the average household. Many parents were being bombarded with the propaganda of the need to expose their children to computers or face the possibility of having ' little Johnny ' fall behind his piers at school and wind up an outcast in society. Jack Tramiel saw this gap in the market and targeted the VIC-20 at it. I have a tape deck for this model, which can be used as external read/write storage. I also have a number of original game cartridges that plug into the VIV-20 proper, plus a joystick... and the games were GREAT. All original documentation is present.
